This tropical green smoothie recipe with pineapple, mango, and kale is refreshing, full of nutrients and tastes like sunshine in a glass! In fact, my nickname for this smoothie is “green sunshine smoothie.” Try it – you’ll see!

It’s super simple, with frozen tropical fruits, an orange (one of those Cuties, peeled and thrown on in, is perfect), almond milk, banana, and spinach or kale (or a bit of both).

Table of Contents

The Story Behind the Recipe

I know smoothie recipes – and especially green smoothie recipes – are super commonplace and easy these days. So does the world really need another?

Good point, self. The truth is, sometimes you (I) happen across a particularly delicious combination and you (I) know you (I) won’t remember the combo. So you (I) decide you’d better publish it on your (okay I’ll stop now) food blog so that you can keep the recipe forevermore.

And here is why, in 2019, you’re seeing another recipe for a dadgum green smoothie: The Tropical Green Smoothie!

This one is entirely drinkable – so drinkable, my smoothie-averse kiddo declared it yummy! That’s saying something (those of you who know my daughter and me know that’s really, really something).

Tropical Green Smoothie Ingredients

It’s super easy to have all the ingredients on hand, because the pineapple and mango just hang in your freezer, and if you’re like me, at least in the wintertime you always have those easy-peel, super sweet oranges on hand (but it’s always nice to have oranges hanging out anytime of the year).

Add in a banana, almond milk, and some greens and viola!

  • Kale or spinach – both are great! I like baby kale in smoothies.
  • Frozen pineapple & frozen mango – both easy to find in the freezer section at both grocery stores., chunked and ready to add to your blender! Perfect.
  • Orange – peel it and drop it in whole!
  • Banana – no need to freeze it first because your pineapple and mango were frozen. Perfect!
  • Almond milk – but any plant based milk will work.

Another green smoothie recipe! (I promise, this tropical green smoothie is worth a try.

How to Make It

Add all of the ingredients to a high-speed blender and blend until pureed. That’s it! If you need a little more milk to get everything moving, feel free to add more a bit at a time until perfect.

Well guys, I have to say I have had quite the case of … what do I call it? Blogger’s block? Recipe block?

I don’t know exactly what to call it but the symptoms include: 1) Decreased ability to come up with blog-worthy new recipes and 2) Extreme increased ability to tuck under a blanket on the couch with a square of dark chocolate, watch drivel like The Bachelor, and obsess over every single kitchen remodel detail one can possibly imagine.

Black Forest Smoothie - Chocolate + cherries = decadent heaven - but this one is super healthy, too. With approximately 14% of your daily RDA of iron, this decadent-tasting smoothie boasts a nice little nutritional boost! High in fiber too. Equally great as a dessert as it is a morning pick-me-up. #chocolatecherrysmoothie #vegansmoothie

The good news? The kitchen is almost done! Finally. We have one more set of cabinet doors to paint, then it’s on to the backsplash plus moving back in. I’m pretty sure once the kitchen remodel is complete I’ll regain some of my blogging mojo. It’s looking bee-you-tiful so I am, in fact, planning on more mojo than ever. (Please, oh please come back, mojo!)

Today’s chocolate cherry smoothie recipe is a super simple one, but so, so delicious. It gives me hope for my mojo and low-cal desserts in equal measure, because it tastes like a decadent milkshake.

In actuality, it’s a fruit-sweetened-only smoothie with a surprising little hit of iron. It has a healthy side but still feels indulgent.

(Okay, even more indulgent if you choose to trash it up a bit with coconut whipped cream and a generous drizzle of chocolate syrup. I won’t judge.)

I mean, I’m always looking for great sources of iron, so I guess I’ll just HAVE to enjoy another Black Forest Smoothie, right? The sacrifices for health, you know.

Hope to be back soon. Bear with me!

Minty, vanilla, creamy, green, and delicious! That’s what these Shamrock Shake Smoothies are all about.

I admit it – I can’t remember the last time I had a legit shamrock shake from McD’s. I think I had one in the name of research when I was creating this recipe.

Healthy Shamrock Shake Smoothie recipe - A super simple smoothie recipe that's dairy-free & vegan, and perfect for St. Patty's Day! Flavored with vanilla and mint; colored naturally green with spinach; rich and creamy with a banana and cashew base.

These days, I’m much more likely to be found drinking a healthy shamrock shake smoothie like this one over a McDonald’s version or even my own boozy rendition. Call it boring, call it living healthier … call it 8 a.m. I’m pretty dang okay with this healthy shamrock shake over any other version.

So what do we have here? An easy peasy list of ingredients, that’s what. Three base ingredients, a couple of things thrown in for flavor, voila. Nourishing, refreshing, and St. Patrick’s Day appropriate deliciousness.

Healthy Shamrock Shake Smoothie recipe - A super simple smoothie recipe that's dairy-free & vegan, and perfect for St. Patty's Day! Flavored with vanilla and mint; colored naturally green with spinach; rich and creamy with a banana and cashew base.

I started with one of my favorite smoothie bases – raw cashews and water! I use the same base for my cashew vanilla smoothie, which was adapted from one of the best green smoothie recipes around from The Blender Girl. In her recipe, she soaks the cashews first. Me, I can barely plan ahead enough to freeze a banana, let alone soak cashews. I’ve found that with my Vitamix, I’m able to whip unsoaked cashews into a plenty-creamy base. Perfect for non-planners like me!

For flavor, we’ve got your standard vanilla extract. You can add a couple of drops of peppermint extract, or go with fresh peppermint. Many months of the year, we have mint going crazy in our garden, but not in March. Hooray for grocery stores!

Another thing I love about this smoothie is that I find there is no need to add any sweeteners. The banana and the cashews add plenty of sweetness. Score!

Top o’ the smoothie to ya, friends. And all the rest, too.

This mango green smoothie recipe is my favorite right now. I’m ready (okay, desperately needing) to get back on the health bandwagon and this green smoothie makes me feel like I’m riding high. Or, you know, something like that. What do I love most about it, other than the taste? How easy it is, that’s what! I mean, yeah, smoothies by their very nature are easy. But this one is super easy because it needs no planning ahead, no chopping. It’s just like four super-simple ingredients into the blender, bam, pour, enjoy. 4-Ingredient Super Drinkable Green Smoothie recipe! Do green smoothies scare you? Have you had too many bad-tasting, off-putting, strange ones? Well, this one is the most drinkable I’ve found – sweet, refreshing, hydrating, and supremely drinkable. Plus it boasts super-short list of ingredients. Win! And seriously, it really is an “enjoy” thing, because this mango green smoothie is truly delicious. So what do we have here? Baby spinach (no, you don’t taste it), frozen mango (it comes already cubed in most grocery store freezer aisles), banana, and coconut water. (Because of the frozen mango, there’s no need to freeze the banana – again, no planning ahead. Love love love!) 4-Ingredient Super Drinkable Mango Green Smoothie recipe! Do green smoothies scare you? Plus it boasts super-short list of ingredients. Win! While this smoothie is a bit high in sugars, they’re all from fruit – so that’s something. What else is it high in? Vitamins! Which is why I feel so terrific after drinking it. Let’s see … for half this recipe (one small smoothie) we’re looking at over 50% of our RDA of Vitamin C. 43% Vitamin A, and there’s even a bit of calcium (3%) and iron (5%) going on here. Potassium clocks in at 14% and magnesium, which I’m always trying to tuck into my diet wherever I can, is at 11%. 4-Ingredient Super Drinkable Mango Green Smoothie recipe! Oatmeal Cookie Smoothie recipe - A delicious dairy-free and protein-rich smoothie that tastes just like an oatmeal cookie! Vegan.

I’m not sure what it is about almond butter, but it tastes kind of like cookie dough to me – especially homemade almond butter. Is it just me? Am I crazy? I think I know the answer to that, and I’m not sure I like it.

So I took my craziness, and I made it into a smoothie. As fall approached, I was craving a protein-rich smoothie with warm spices and filling ingredients. I love oats in smoothies, so it wasn’t long before I was determined to create a smoothie that tasted just like an oatmeal cookie. And when I think cookie, I think almond butter! Or something like that.

    Yeah. Definitely crazy.

But for that it’s worth, this vegan Oatmeal Cookie Smoothie? It’s crazy good. Like, seriously, one of my best smoothies ever. I like it so much it makes me talk like, like a valley girl. Tubular!

Oatmeal Cookie Smoothie recipe - A delicious dairy-free and protein-rich smoothie that tastes just like an oatmeal cookie! Vegan.

Okay, so here’s what we’ve got. Oats, soaked for just a few minutes in almond milk to soften ’em up (oats can taste chalky in smoothies, and that extra step can help). Banana for sweetness and creaminess. A date to add some extra caramelly sweet goodness because the smoothie is based on a cookie, after all. Cozy cinnamon and vanilla. And, of course, a scoop of almond butter.

    Oatmeal Cookie Smoothie

I love this Oatmeal Cookie Smoothie for breakfast, but they’re equally delicious as an afternoon pick-me-up or just when I’m craving something sweet. Perfect after-school snack too. Maybe by the time our picky daughter is in school full-time, she’ll finally realize that smoothies are fan-freaking-tastic. But until then, I guess I’ll have to enjoy them for her.

Because I’m not only crazy sometimes, I’m selfless too.

It’s creamy and sweet (but not too sweet), energizing, tastes like a splurge, and it sports a tropical vibe that helps brighten up the darkest winter day. So I thought I’d take some new pictures and re-share this Vegan Mango-Coconut Green Smoothie recipe – my very favorite smoothie recipe!

So, I realize I’m several years late to the party here, but I’ve finally discovered yoga.

It’s, like, a trip to the spa for a massage. Except you do it yourself, it’s cheaper, and you feel even better afterwards. I’m taking very beginner level classes – no impossible pose attempts in front of depressing mirrors and no hot-yoga blackout episodes, not that I’d know anything about either of those things – and I’m practically giddy over how much I’m enjoying it. “Grace” and “flexible” are about the last two words one would ever use to describe me, but if I keep this up, maybe I’ll get a little closer. So far, it certainly makes me feel great.

A blog story about a nice, healthy green smoothie seemed to be the perfect chance to share my yoga discovery. After all, when I come home all loosey-goosey relaxed after yoga class, this mango-coconut green smoothie is pretty much the perfect way to recharge.

Smoothies are the best thing ever, aren’t they? They feel like a treat – it’s like drinking a fruity milkshake! – but generally they’re packed with energizing nutrients and guilt-free goodness.

If you’ve never tried a green smoothie made with spinach, you’ll be shocked and amazed that you don’t taste it at all. Spinach just makes the smoothie gorgeously green, and, of course, super-healthy.

This version’s a bit heartier than some, thanks to the addition of oats. I’ve done that once before, in this Blueberry Oatmeal Smoothie, and I figured it was time I did it again.

Oats are an awesome addition to smoothies. Aside from the added fiber, they bulk up your typical fruity base to help keep you satisfied for longer.

I love cranberry smoothies this time of year – not only for the health factor, but also because they’re just so darn seasonal! I mean, you can’t not look at this smoothie’s rosy hue and NOT feel good, am I right? (To feel even better, drink it too!)

Oh, and just an aside: pineapple may seem like a strange ingredient to add to the list, but stay with me here! The sweetness of the pineapple is the perfect counterpoint to the tart cranberries – no extra sweetener needed.

Are you on board with green smoothies yet? I am – and how – but I get how their, um, goblin-esque hue can be a turn-off for some. With spinach green smoothies, however, what you see is not what you taste – and therein lies their beauty. You get a huge hit of greens but all you taste is fruity goodness. Pinky swear.

Juicy ripe peaches and a zing of ginger give this Ginger Peach Green Smoothie a bit of zip and whole lot of sass.

My latest green smoothie fixation: This Ginger Peach Green Smoothie. Sweet and juicy with a fresh ripe peach; zingy with a hit of ginger. And no spinach taste.

Juicy ripe peaches and a zing of ginger give this Ginger Peach Green Smoothie a bit of zip and whole lot of sass.

With just four ingredients – five if you feel like it needs a little sweetening (this depends on personal taste and how sweet your fruit is) – it’s wonderfully simple too. If you’re still needing to be dragged kicking and screaming into greensmoothietown, this might just be the smoothie to do it.

Sometimes it takes me way too long to jump on a bandwagon. Aquafaba, for instance? I just can’t go there. But in a couple of years, I’ll probably be wondering what too me so long.

And then there are smoothie bowls. They … well, they basically skeeved me out. Why in the heckin’ heck would you eat your smoothie with a spoon? That’s what straws are for! Then I kept hearing about acai bowls and right around that time I was searching for new breakfast ideas. So I gave an acai bowl a try and … holy wow. SMOOTHIE BOWLS ARE LIKE ICE CREAM FOR BREAKFAST!

Wanna feel like you're getting to eat ice cream for breakfast? Make this Chocolate Peanut Butter Smoothie Bowl! It's refreshing, surprisingly hearty, and pretty dang healthy, too.

All-caps-worthy epiphany! Which is to say, I am without a doubt a smoothie bowl convert. So freakin’ good.

Basically, the point isn’t to eat your smoothie with a spoon instead of just drinking it with a straw. The point is to dress that bad boy up with tons of delicious and nutritious toppings. And then eat it with a spoon, because it is totally the way to be.

This version, the Chocolate Peanut Butter Smoothie Bowl, is my favorite – and even the more mainstream eaters in my house are down with it, too.

You know chocolate peanut butter ice cream? A.K.A: Elixir of the Gods? That’s what the base of this tastes like. Except thinner.

I add ice to this one because I feel like it needs some volume, plus, the colder the better in my book.

And then you just top it with all kinds of goodies. I like coconut, pepitas, chia seeds, sliced banana, peanuts, and maybe a little sprinkle of chocolate chips if I really feel like going for it.

This smoothie bowl is the best heatwave breakfast ever. Ever ever. With all those toppings, it sticks to your ribs. And it’s pretty darn healthy overall. But it seriously is like eating ice cream for breakfast.
